Today was a rough day....

Maddox had his 2 month check-up today, and that means SHOTS. The nurses thought that they would try to ease the pain by giving Maddox the shots simultaneously, but it didn't work out so well. Due to the odd number of shots (3), the nurses had to prick his little thigh twice. Maddox handled the first round like a champ, but on the second round he freaked and lost it. We found out that he definitely has a good set of lungs on him. After a few minutes of screaming, he was able to sooth himself and acted as if nothing was wrong. He did have a few cranky moments throughout the day, and his legs were very tender. So, the diaper changes were interesting because of the tenderness, but he LOVES grape flavored Tylenol.

Besides the traumatic experience of the shots, Maddox's check-up was great. He is simply growing like a weed and is in the 63% on the growth chart. He weighed in at a solid 12lb 2 oz. and grew another inch at 23 1/4. When it comes to foot size, he is off the charts and is currently wearing 6-9 month socks. Pretty soon he will be borrowing Dad's socks......

It's Time to Party

Maddox, Mom and Dad ventured out for Memorial Day and attended a party put on by one of Dad's police friends. We were not sure how Maddox would react in a loud, unfamiliar house, but we were pleasantly surprised at how well he did. Upon our arrival at the house, the BBQ grill was fired up and there were a lot of people talking and enjoying adult beverages. Maddox was wide awake and did not seem to be bothered by all of the new faces and the loud noises. He smiled big for all of the ladies and everyone was amazed at how cute he is. After a couple of hours, Maddox decided he had had enough and fell asleep in the sling.

We sure have had a busy week....

After tackling the whole non-pooping incident, we are back on track and are making huge improvements. Maddox has been growing like a weed and you can definitely tell he has been getting longer and chunkier (Dad prefers the word Husky). It has been a week of purging and we have officially retired all of the 0-3 month clothes.

This week we went and visited Nancy our daycare provider at her home, and Maddox got to meet her for the first time. We gave Nancy all of the pointers for calming Maddox (which we rarely have to use), and provided her with a list of all of his likes and dislikes. The whole time we were at her home, Maddox was alert as can be and was taking in all of the sights and sounds. I think Maddox and Nancy will get along just fine. It is hard to believe that Mom will be going back to work in the next 2 weeks.

We have made a few trips to the mall and to Lowe's in order to get the flowers into the ground this spring. Maddox loves being in the car and does extremely well in the stroller and shopping cart. He likes looking at all of the lights and bright colors and is turning in to a good little shopper.

Maddox has been smiling quite a bit this week and he is making some hilarious new sounds. It has been incredible seeing how he follows our movements and turns his head to the sound of our voices. Dad thinks Maddox is going to be a little trouble maker because every time he hoses down the wall he turns and grins from ear to ear.

Maddox likes hanging out on his tummy time mat. He holds his head up very well and almost appears like he is trying to crawl.

The greatest invention ever is the Baby Einstein Activity Gym. Maddox spends a lot of time looking at and hitting the various toys.

After a busy week, Maddox was pooped out and decided it was a good idea to take a nap.

It was a great day....

We had a great day on Sunday, and Maddox had fun celebrating Mothers Day with Mommy, Grandma Smith and Grandma K. The Grandmas came and visited us at our house and they were amazed at how big he has gotten. We have discovered that Maddox can no longer squeeze into the 0-3 month clothes and we have started to pack away the clothes just in case we decide to do this again.

Somebody likes to give that smart%&# smirk like his Dad. It looks like he is up to something....

Lesson Learned

This morning we had to take Maddox in for an unscheduled doctors appointment. We had noticed throughout the night on Friday that he had not been having his very predictable brown messes in his diaper. We called the nurse help line at the hospital and they told us that we needed to bring him in first thing in the morning because there may be something more severe going on. So after 19 hours without the poopy diaper, we took him in to see the doc.

I parked the car in our Reserved parking spot in the ramp (because we have been there so many times) and proceeded to get Maddox ready to go inside. Jokingly I told Jenn, "Watch, we're going to get inside and he is going to have a blowout in his pants."

We checked in at the front desk and had a seat in the waiting room. It was creepy quite with only a couple of others waiting, so it set the scene perfectly. We had only been waiting for about 1 minute when it happened. Maddox crossed his eyebrows, looked at me, grunted and very loudly filled his diaper.

The nurse called us back into the exam room and we explained our situation. We stripped him down to his diaper and whisked him out to the scale. As I proceeded to take off his diaper, I noticed a definite brown mess. I cleaned him up and put on a clean diaper. The nurse put him on the scale and he weighed a good 11lbs, and then we went back into the exam room.

The doctor came in and started laughing. She looked him over and said that everything was normal and he is a healthy baby. She reassured us that he is probably just hitting his growth spurt and is absorbing all of the nutrients he is getting from the milk. Absorption + Growth = No Poop.

So, throughout this no poop adventure, we have learned that if you suspect there is something wrong with your baby, all you have to do is go sit in the waiting room of the doctors office and they miraculously cure themselves...........

No pictures please.....

Now that he is such a celebrity in the neighborhood, Maddox is charging $5000 per appearance.

The polls in Iowa are closed and we finally have a winner!!!

In a landslide victory, the Mullet has prevailed with 69% of the vote. Unless there is continued controversy, the hairdo is here to stay.

"I Wanna Rock (Rock)!"

Dee Snider and the members of Twisted Sister would be so proud!!! Who said 80's hair bands were dead?
